    Soyuz is operated from the Guiana Space Centre, Europe’s spaceport. Like Ariane and Vega, launcher elements are shipped to Kourou in containers aboard the MN Toucan and MN Colibri. The only difference is their departure point, from Saint Petersburg in Russia. A Soyuz launch campaign lasts one to two months. Each phase is described below.

    CNES President Jean-Yves Le Gall and Didier Faivre, Director of the Guiana Space Centre (CSG), presented the agency’s New Year wishes to local institutional and socio-professional partners and paid tribute to the centre’s teams for their contributions to a year of extraordinary accomplishments for Europe’s space programme.

    A symbolic and important milestone has been reached on the road to the arrival of the mythical Russian Soyuz launcher in French Guiana. Numerous VIPs and representatives from CNES, ESA, Arianespace and the Russian space agency Roskosmos were at a ceremony to break ground for the new launch pad.
